Cubing is to determine the load space that we occupy in the mean of transport, which subsequently involves transportation costs directly proportional to what you measured or weighed. 


Calculating air freight costs 
Air freight rates can be expressed as a volume ratio of 1 m3 = 167 kg. Therefore, for air shipment, you pay for what is greater, the volume or weight of your load.


The calculation is based on the following formula: 
Length (m) x width (m) x height (m) = M3 x 167 

Example: 
1 pallet / 500 kg / Dimensions: 1.80 x 1.00 x 1.40 m = 2.52 M3 

Freight: 
USD 1,95 / Kg.Vol.
2.52 M3 x 167 = 421 kgs.vol. 

Then we have that 500 is greater than 421, so rate will be applied to the weight: 1,95 x 500 = USD 975 of air freight. 


Calculating ocean freight costs 
Ocean freight rates for LCL, are provided at a rate of TON or CUBIC METER, which is arithmetically greater. 

This fee is part of the following equivalence: 
1 CBM = 1 TON 

Example: 
1 pallet / 500 kg / Dimensions: 1.80 x 1.00 x 1.40 m = 2.52 M3 

Freight: 
USD 95 / Ton.M3 

Then we have that 2.52 is greater than 0.50, so the ocean rate will be applied to the displacement: 95 x 2.52 = USD 239,40 for the ocean freight
